Melbourne Office Fitout: CPB Contractors, 126 Workstations
CPB Contractors
QTC Build completed a commercial office fitout in Melbourne for CPB Contractors, one of Australia’s largest infrastructure and civil construction companies. The project delivered 126 workstations, 11 offices and 5 meeting rooms, along with a significant volume of loose furniture, all sourced locally and on a tight pre-Christmas timeline.
The Brief
CPB Contractors engaged QTC Build to deliver a satellite office fitout supporting the Tram Road to Springvale Road Big Build project. The scope included 126 workstations, 11 enclosed offices, five meeting rooms and loose furniture throughout, all within a fixed programme to ensure the project team could occupy the space before Christmas 2025.
As one of Australia’s leading infrastructure contractors, CPB Contractors maintains high workplace health and safety standards. QTC Build worked closely with the client to ensure all project documentation, safety systems and site management aligned with these requirements prior to construction commencing.
The Challenge
Once contracts were executed, the programme left insufficient time to procure new workstations through traditional supply channels. Overseas lead times made importing furniture impractical, requiring an alternative procurement strategy to deliver 126 fully functioning workstations before handover.
The building also required upgrading. The existing HVAC system was not designed for the planned occupancy levels, requiring additional split systems to provide a comfortable working environment.
The project also presented an opportunity to elevate QTC Build’s workplace health and safety systems. As a major infrastructure contractor, CPB Contractors operates to a high standard of safety management. QTC Build upgraded its project documentation, procedures and safety management systems to align with these requirements, strengthening the systems we continue to implement across our projects.
The Approach
Rather than relying on a single supplier, QTC Build developed a local procurement strategy that sourced workstation components from multiple Australian suppliers. Workstation tops were manufactured locally, frames were sourced from an importer with available stock, refurbished task chairs were supplied by a commercial furniture specialist, and CMS Electricom provided the electrical components for the sit-stand desks. The complete workstation assemblies, including cable management and privacy screens, were installed on site.
For the loose furniture, QTC Build identified an opportunity to repurpose ex-showroom furniture from another client. We coordinated inspections, negotiated the arrangement and managed delivery, providing CPB Contractors with quality furniture while reducing procurement timeframes and avoiding unnecessary waste.
Additional split systems were installed to supplement the existing HVAC system, while the upgraded workplace health and safety systems were implemented throughout construction to meet CPB Contractors’ project requirements.
The Result
CPB Contractors occupied the satellite office before Christmas 2025 as planned, providing a fully operational workplace to support the Tram Road to Springvale Road Big Build project.
By combining locally manufactured workstation components, refurbished seating and repurposed commercial furniture, the project delivered a practical sustainability outcome while overcoming critical procurement lead times. Successfully delivering the project also strengthened QTC Build’s capability in delivering commercial fitouts for major infrastructure clients operating within high-compliance construction environments.
